Get ready to spin, squish, and occasionally battle the clay! In this 4-week wheel throwing class, middle school students will learn the basics of pottery while having fun and getting a little messy. Students will practice centering clay (the hardest part—but totally conquerable), pulling walls, and making simple bowls, cups, and other cool creations. Each week builds new skills, plus plenty of laughs and “oops” moments that turn into learning experiences. No experience needed—if the clay wobbles, that’s part of the fun! The class is taught by Mia Connoly, a recent graduate of Metro State University, who knows her way around a pottery wheel and promises not to laugh too hard when the clay goes flying (it happens). All materials, tools, glazing, and firing are included. Ages: Middle School (Grades 6–8) Class Length: 1 hour per week Skill Level: Beginner Additional Information: Your creations will be ready for pickup from the studio approximately 2-3 weeks from the workshop date. You should receive a pickup email when they're finished, but if it is eaten by filters, please come by the studio after 4 weeks to check on your pots or send us an email. Any pottery left at the studio 6 weeks after the workshop date will be donated, so please pick up your work in time! YOU MUST SIGN YOUR POTTERY. Denver Ceramic Studio is not liable for lost pieces that are unsigned and mistakenly claimed by another student. Not all pieces are guaranteed to make it out of the kiln if instructions are not followed. Inconsistencies in thickness can cause cracks or even shattering in the firing process. However, the goal is to just have fun, so don’t stress about it!
